Today we took a boat tour of the RIver Thames which was awesome! For this beginning “getting to know London” week, we are still traveling in our full crew of 150+ so we clearly stand out as American tourists wherever we go. The boat tour was perfect. It was like 75-80 degrees today and there was a nice breeze off the water. We cruised around and took a ton of pictures, and then we were dropped off and “released” in Greenwich. Some of us went to Greenwich Market which was adorable! We got sandwiches and a couple of guys started playing music… also, side note: I have seen and heard more accordions in the last three days than I have in my whole life.
Another really fun thing about London right now is the national pride. Everyone is getting ready for the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics, so there are flags and pennant strings EVERYWHERE! During our break yesterday at orientation, we went across the street to a nursery hosting a bake sale and all of the kids were wearing flag stickers and the classroom was decorated. The Queen’s face is everywhere and the flag is on everything. There is also a ton of patriotic clothing, which I love to see!
